Commodities CFDs
Metals and energy prices, no physical delivery
Commodity CFDs follow the price of metals and energy contracts. Nothing is delivered, stored or shipped — the position settles in cash against the reference price.
Why trade Commodities CFDs with DXM
Price exposure only
Your result is the price difference on the contract, not delivery of an asset.
Long or short
Open in either direction; losses grow if the market moves against you.
Margin and leverage
Margin is a deposit against exposure, not a cap on it, and applies per instrument.
Conditions where they are binding
Instrument list, sizes, spreads and hours come from your account terms and the platform.
What is it?
Commodities are raw materials traded on global markets — precious metals such as gold and silver, and energy such as crude oil and natural gas. A commodity CFD follows the price of the relevant reference contract.
Nothing physical is involved. There is no barrel, no bullion, no storage and no delivery: the position is opened and closed against the reference price and settled in cash.

How it works
Choose a market
Metals and energy behave differently. Metals often react to interest rates and risk sentiment; energy reacts to production, inventories and transport.
Set the size
Each instrument has its own contract size, so the same lot value means very different exposure on gold than on natural gas.
Post margin
Margin requirements are set per instrument and reflect how volatile it is. They can change, and a position can require more margin than when it was opened.
Hold or close
Holding a position past the end of the trading day may involve financing, and dated contracts follow the handling described in their terms.
Key concepts
CFD versus physical
Buying physical metal means owning and storing it. A CFD is a price contract with no delivery, no storage and no insurance of a physical asset.
Supply and demand
Production decisions, inventories, weather, transport and industrial demand all move commodity prices, often faster than broad equity markets.
Contract size and exposure
The contract size behind each instrument sets how much a one-unit price move is worth. Check it before sizing a position.
Margin
Margin is a deposit against exposure, not a maximum loss. Volatile commodities typically require proportionally more of it.
Spread
The difference between buy and sell price is a cost paid at entry, and it can widen outside the most active hours.
Volatility
Energy in particular can move violently on inventory data or supply disruption. Position sizing matters more than direction here.
Long and short
You can position for a falling market as easily as a rising one; both expose you to loss.
Overnight financing
Keeping a leveraged position open over time can incur financing, applied strictly as described in the contract terms for that instrument.
Sessions, liquidity and gaps
Commodity instruments follow the hours of the market they reference, with scheduled breaks. Activity concentrates around the hours when the underlying market is most liquid and around data releases such as inventory reports.
Outside those windows spreads can widen and prices can gap when trading resumes. The trading hours and breaks for each instrument are shown in the platform.
Risk warning
CFDs are leveraged instruments. Margin is a deposit, not a limit on your exposure, so losses can exceed your initial margin and in fast markets your position can close at a worse price than expected. Spreads, financing and other costs reduce your result. Prices can gap over weekends, holidays and news events, and a stop order is an instruction to close — not a guarantee of the price it fills at.
Risks to understand
- Commodity prices can move sharply and with little warning.
- Leveraged losses can exceed the margin you deposited.
- Financing and spread costs accumulate on positions held over time.
- Gaps after breaks or over weekends can push fills away from your intended level.
